Designer-Approved Tips For Decorating With Big Accessories

Displaying small pieces of artwork or decor is pretty easy—a blank wall or a coffee table can readily house one or two. But displaying a huge painting or sculpture piece can pose a challenge. Interior designer John Vigilia of FinoPino weighs in. Check out his tips below:

1. Where are the best spots at home to display big art pieces? 

"The best spots are on walls that are seen upon entering rooms, or on walls that would serve as a backdrop for a certain setting (wall behind a sofa set or dining set, behind a desk, etc.) Also, on walls without any obstructions (awkward beams, pipe chases, aircon, etc.) 

2. What should be considered when displaying huge works of art like sculptures, art installations and big paintings? 

"Important art needs a dedicated wall. If you display it together with many other items, it might "disappear," or the focus might be shifted. "If there is limited space and there's no choice but to mix artworks, similarly proportioned artworks together and group those that complement each other."

3. How can condo dwellers display a piece or two?

"You can also display big artwork in a small space, provided that one wall is dedicated to that artwork. Artworks can serve as a backdrop for a setting, and they can create the mood of the room. There is no general rule when it comes to artworks. What is imprtant is that the artworks convey the intended ambiance in a certain space."
