Myth No. 1: Everything must be polished and well-finished.

A few flaws aren’t actually bad. In fact, these ‘’battle scars’’ add more character to a piece – think Shabby-Chic or rustic. Interior designer John Vigilia, who previously worked at Budji Layug + Royal Pineda Design Architects, agrees. "A little flaw makes something unique, interesting, or personalized… think something aged, crinkled at the edges, or perhaps something textured.’’

He adds, ‘’Something out of place, like a crackled-printed vase squeaked in between sleek pieces, would be interesting. Mismatched dining chairs have mostly been used either intentionally or incidentally.’’ The trick is to make sure that the pieces complement each other.
