Cool Design Hacks For Really Tiny Kitchens
Super-tiny kitchen? These clever, space-morphing design hacks will solve the problem!
There is no hard-and-fast rule stating that extremely tiny kitchens should just be left unadorned and white. The truth is, there are all sorts of decorating and design hacks that can be done to add personality, and create some extra space and storage. Here are a few ideas from our Home Tours:
Extra-special lighting
A tiny countertop or breakfast nook should not limit you to bad style. TV producer Nessa Valdellon made her condo kitchen extra-special by having Keystone Lamps customize a pendant lamp inspiration she spotted, while a field trip to Pampanga yielded these woven solihiya-seat bar stools from Venzon Lighting.

Pots and pans as artwork
Instead of treating an excess of cooking implements as clutter, why not treat it as artwork? That’s what decorator Elle Uy did in this tiny studio unit kitchen. “Para di siya super-cluttered tingnan, fi-nrame ko siya,” she says. You can get ready-made molding for the frame at local home depots.

Urban jungle
Interior designer and up-cycler Willie Garcia is fond of nature and greens, but this compact condo kitchen was located too far away from the window for any live plants. Her solution: faux plants on the ceiling, plus a whimsical ivy-patterned wallpaper for a lush and charming look.

Column storage
In the same kitchen, Angelica added three more space-enhancing tricks: a column that has extra niches, a cabinet with door to hide clutter or shoes, plus a floor-to-ceiling mirror on the side to make the room look bigger.
Sculptural countertop
A Brutalist aesthetic pervades throughout this 33sqm unit, and the theme extends right to the kitchen. Interior designer Billie dela Cruz made it into a standout spot by commissioning artist Ralph David to create a sculptural table/countertop, complete with built-in strip lights. The dramatic table has since become the focal point in the unit.
