Things That Shouldn't Be in Your Bedroom, According to Feng Shui
Allow restive energy to flow in.
Whether or not you subscribe to feng shui, you have to admit that many of its tips simply make sense when it comes to managing your space. Your bedroom, for example, should be a haven of peace and organization, and arranging it in a way that will promote this can actually give you a more calming environment.
So, if you want to move things around to make sure that good vibes flow in better, here are a few things that shouldn’t be in your bedroom.
Clutter
In feng shui, clutter represents old, stagnant energy that you don’t need in your life, which is why it’s important to rid yourself of it.
Certain spots in the bedroom, however, attract more clutter than others. One of them is the space beneath your bed. Feng shui discourages putting things under the bed, but this isn’t always possible. If you have a tiny room and you’re thinking of using the said area as additional storage space, then make sure what you put are items that are organized and that give you good, clean energy. If you can, avoid storing the following:
a. Clutter for sorting – This will only disrupt the flow of energy and can make it harder for you to sleep;
b. Shoes – According to a feature on MyDomaine, storing shoes beneath your bed symbolizes people trying to take advantage of you; and
c. Documents and files that don’t reflect positivity.
Mirrors
Mirrors in bedrooms aren’t recommended in feng shui, as they’re said to cause imbalance in energies. Of course, there’s a work-around: position your mirror in a way that it doesn’t reflect your bed. If you can’t move the mirror, you can instead drape it with cloth at before going to sleep. Also, avoid having mirrors above your headboard as this is said to deplete your energy.
Images or paintings of only one person
Adding art to your bedroom? Make sure that they exude a light, happy feeling. Avoid paintings featuring only one person, as these represent solitude and loneliness. Instead, go for images that will make you feel positive and light-hearted whenever you see them. Place them across your bed so these can be the first things that you see when you wake up.
Décor featuring water
Water is a pretty complicated thing to situate in feng shui, so you have to be careful about putting this element in your home. Water can represent high energy, so this is something that you want outside your place of rest.
Anything heavy right above your bed
Heavy beams and ceiling fans shouldn’t be placed directly above where you rest, as these may invite stress and difficulties. If you have these in your room, the best thing to do is to move your bed, or ask a feng shui expert for remedies.
