We spend a large chunk of our lives in bed, which makes it important to make sure that your bed—not just your bedroom—always looks cozy and inviting.

Yes, it can be a bit of an effort, especially in the morning when you’re in a rush to get ready for the day ahead, but making your bed look stylish is definitely worth the extra work. After all, nothing is better than coming home to a lovely space to get some down time in. Follow these simple steps and get the pretty bed you deserve.

We all know that great sleep has plenty of great benefits, so to achieve a good night’s sleep, it is important to get the best bed frame, mattress, and sheets you can. While the kind and color of these depend entirely on your personal taste, a great color suggestion for sheets would be white, as it provides a good foundation for the other colors and details you will be adding later on.

Do your sheets properly

If you want to make your bed look at stylish as possible, you should know how to lay down every sheet properly. An important thing you should do is to ensure that your sheets are clear of any creases. If you don’t have the time to iron it out, before putting your fitted sheet in place, lay it out over the mattress with the corners still untucked, then spray it lightly with tap water until it is slightly damp and shake out until the creases are smoothened out.

After putting the fitted sheet in place, lay out your bedspread over the mattress (leaving a portion of the top exposed) and adjust accordingly, so that it drapes the sides of your bed evenly. Pull the exposed part of the bedspread back, then fold it neatly downwards.

Arrange your pillows well

After the sheets, prop your pillows against the headboard, keeping the open sides facing the sides of the bed. Place a couple of decorative pillows resting against them, then finish it off with some throw pillows.(Layer your pillows: Standard bed pillows first, then square throw pillows, and last come the rectangular small kidney pillows or bolsters.—Ed.) Make sure to dress your smaller pillows in interesting yet harmonious colors, prints, and textures for added pizzazz.

Add a charming finish

No stylish bed is complete without an extra something. Casually drape a throw, runner, or even a small sheepskin rug at the foot of your bed, or style your nightstand with a cute vignette or a unique table lamp.
