If white, beige, and brown are your go-to colors when redecorating a space, then you might want to jazz things up a bit. Have you tried turquoise and yellow, gray and pink, or seafoam and cinnamon? An unexpected color palette can immediately update a space, add drama, and uplift your spirits. Take some baby steps and try these color combos:  

Seafoam green and orange

Leave it to interior designer Wilmer Lopez to pair sophisticated seafoam green walls with cinnamon-orange velvet chairs and other accessories. The soft tint of the walls also makes the vibrant colors of the artwork pop out.

Designers Pai Edles and Misty Floro of Morfosis transformed a bare studio unit into the ultimate bachelor pad with a raised platform bed, defined living and working areas, and a striking color palette of dark gray, black, and primary red as bold accent.

Yellow and blue


Not brave enough to mix two primaries in one space? You can, if you use a neutral backdrop to balance the whole look. This is exactly what design consultant EJ Catayong did in this condo unit—the turquoise blue three-seater sofa and bright yellow pillows pop in the space, but these are tempered by the pale wood walls.

Cobalt and brights


Orange, yellow, red, and other bright hues might seem overwhelming when combined with cobalt blue, but these all work when played against a backdrop of an airy, double-volume ceiling and tropical neutrals.

Pale pastels and gray


Stylist Julienne Cruz went for a soothing but playful palette of blush and lemon mixed with heather gray for this 60sqm condo. “Her Pinterest board has a mix of Scandinavian and Boho elements…It was a choice between gray, blush, and pale yellow; or a combination of gray, blush, and pale green. She chose the one with yellow,” Julienne says of her client’s choices.

Teal and pastels
