5 Most Beautiful RL Homes

More than a beauty contest, these homes truly embody the owners’ creativity and personal style

Photography: Vincent Coscolluela (Main Photo)

In the thirteen years of Real Living’s existence, the staff has seen, literally, thousands of homes. All the homes are lovely in their own right, but there are a handful of abodes that stand out.

But what makes a Real Home truly beautiful? In our book, it’s the combination of sheer creativity, the designer’s flair (though some of these picks are not professionally designed) and sticking to the homeowners’ personal styles—where else would you find homes like these?

To see more beautiful homes, don't forget to grab a copy of Real Living's April 2016 issue—out now in bookstores and newsstands nationwide! You can also download your digital copy of Real Living on the Real Living App. Log on to for more details.

No. 5 A Tropical-Modern Davao Family Home

With architecture by Patrick Tan and interior design by Wilan Dayrit, we believe that this Davao home is an example of the perfect modern-tropical home: it has open-plan areas and large windows that frame verdant views, an abundance of natural materials, and original furniture pieces by noted Filipino designer Kenneth Cobonpue.

Unique feature: Surprise—it doesn’t have a living room! The homeowner, who loves to cook, opted for a huge kitchen and dining room instead.

No. 4 An Asian Fantasy Home in the Heart of Marikina

Enter the gate from the modest Marikina street and you’ll discover this eclectic-Asian fantasy. Dr. Rommel Caballes’s family home has ancient Indian doors, gigantic Buddha statues, enormous canopied daybeds, and a kitchen that can be accessed by crossing a bridge over a pond!

Unique feature: Dr. Rommel’s home is adjacent to his restaurant Patio Vera, a gem of a restaurant that is also filled with antique Asian treasures.

No. 3 A Vintage-Artsy Quezon City Home

Open the 1960s front door of this sprawling home and you will see all things mid-century: from the Eames tables in the living room to the original Eero Saarinen Tulip chairs in the hallway. Even the kitchen and the colors (brown, lime green, funky orange) are vintage. Groovy, baby!

Unique feature: The quirky artwork of this house’s gallery-owner residents are as expected—simply amazing.

No. 2 A Minimalist Bacolod Home

If there’s any one who knows about tasteful restraint, it’s Bacolod-based architect and furniture designer Bernie Sason. He paired bare concrete with long expanses of white space, punctuated here and there with carefully chosen pieces (most of which are of his own design).

Unique feature: A fittingly minimalist pond that snakes the length of the home. The trickling water adds to the Zen feel of the house.

No. 1 This Rustic Dumaguete Home

Is it a gallery? An artifacts display? An art-books library? This rustic, sprawling structure is all of the above, and it also serves as a home for artist Karl Aguila, his wife Ophanie, and son Rafa.

Karl, who owns furniture store Atelier Aguila, fills his amazing house with furniture of his own design, antiques, santos, dug-up treasures like old rice mills, and other ephemera that inspire his works.

Unique feature: The open terrace that overlooks views of breathtaking Tambobo bay. Visitors can see the boats zooming in and out of the bay from this perch.
