4 Styling Tips for Your Lanai

Whether you’re hosting an outdoor party or a simple get together, you can transform your lanai into a stylish and comfy space

If you want to soak up some sun or simply want to experience the outdoors, the lanai is the perfect place where you can relax and take a breather. Aside from serving as a calming retreat, it's also where you can hold parties and entertain guests.

Interior designer Kathleen Obcemea shares with us five easy tips to transform your outdoor area into a serene and modern space.

Keep these tips in mind:

Bring out your favorite things

Your lanai should still be a reflection of your personal style. “Decorate your lanai with items that make you happy. Choose décor pieces that give you a positive energy to make your lanai an inviting space," shares Kathleen. If you are passionate about gardening, you may also display your favorite plants. If you love to read, why not add a mobile reading area?

Utilize storage pieces

The lanai can also serve as an extended storage area for your things. Kathleen says, “Maximize whatever space that you have by using furniture as storage.” Choosing multipurpose furniture can help you keep clutter at bay.

RL Tip: Pick an ottoman that opens up as a storage box. Aside from extra seating, this functional piece is great for storing extra throw pillows for your guests.

Mix and match patterns

It doesn't always have to be ‘matchy-matchy.' Experiment with different looks by working with different patterns. “Sabi nila magulo daw tingnan yung texture on texture. But then if you amplify an accent and work with one anchored look, you can achieve a stylish lanai," says Kathleen.

 Play with unusual colors

“Don’t be afraid to use different colors. Sometimes, if you use too many neutrals, paminsan may kulang,” Kathleen shares. If you want to achieve a relaxing space, try using sage green and beige. This unexpected color palette can create a resort-like ambience in your area.
