The Typhoon Ursula that hit in December 2019 caused massive damage to Sheryl Yerro’s wine room, which was located on the third floor of their home. The wind broke through the windows, wrecking pieces of furniture in the area.

“Four plys [of our curtains] were carried by the wind and we don’t know where they went.” The sofa fell three floors down.

After she and her husband repaired the room, Sheryl also thought of giving it a revamp. “I had time [during] COVID,” she says in an email correnspondence with Real Living. “More of a de-stress actually for me. [I’m] preoccupying myself with productive stuff…especially [since] kami lang ng mga anak ko. Hubby wasn’t able to go home. He’s an OFW in Qatar.”

Some of the previous redos included a glass window upgrade to make sure it’s sturdier. The sofa which, broke a leg, was also fixed.

Since they’ve totally lost the curtains, Sheryl decided that it was actually better not to replace them. “Not all loss is a loss,” she says. “We can now see the beautiful mountain view everyday especially [during] daylight.”

She also bought a side table from Mandaue Foam, as well as several potted plants. “Snake plants…purify the air and absorb toxins. At ‘di rin siya maalaga.”

Probably the highlight of the space is the upcycled center table. “The glass had dents, so I’ve tried doodling…using a gold marker to make it reusable.”

The result was a beautiful and elegant statement piece that tied the homey space together.
