Did You Know That You Can Extend The Life of Your Light Bulbs?
Save a little extra power and money with these tips
We'll let you in on a secret—you don't have to switch light bulbs as often as you do. While it's true that all bulbs burn out eventually, there are things you can do to extend its life by a few more months. After all, external factors are usually the reason they die out quicker than they should. Save on repair and replacement costs with these tips:Â
1. Operate it at low power. If you have a dimmer switch, be sure to make the most of it! Less power means less heat, which translates to less stress on a bulb filament. When you dim a bulb, you are lowering the voltage delivered to the bulb filament which extends its life.Â
2. Buy light bulbs from a brand you trust. Or at least find one with promising quality control. It is better to spend more on a light bulb, than to constantly shell out money for repairs and replacement.Â
3. Make sure light bulbs are screwed in properly. Flip the switch then gently screw the light bulb into the socket clockwise. Don’t stop turning it until you encounter resistance. If it never gets locked in, call a professional electrician immediately.Â
4. Check the condition of your light fixtures and your wiring. If you have done all of the above and still find that your light bulbs die quickly, perhaps it would be wise to seek professional help. Understand that not all electrical problems are going to be related but it is best to be sure.Â
5. Invest in LED lighting. Compared to fluorescent lighting, LED bulbs generally last between 25,000 and 50,000 hours. These bulbs are also less sensitive to vibrations and shocks so it will hold its own well during a typhoon or earthquake.Â
