Q: How will I incorporate our old stuff to our new house? Can you give me some tips?—Evelyn Reyes via Facebook

A: Getting a new place doesn't necessarily mean filling it with just new items. Refinishing and repurposing old furniture are the best ways to incorporate your old things into your next home without spending much. There are many ways to bring new life to your old pieces: try repainting or re-varnishing wooden pieces, reupholstering chairs with graphic fabrics, or powder-coating metal furniture in vibrant hues.

Q: Where can I find a good-quality buffet table that is reasonably priced and modern in style? I'm not a fan of ornate carvings, and the buffet tables that I see in malls don't look durable. —Lei, Las Piñas City

A: Your best bet would be to have your buffet table custom-made. Check out the furniture makers at the third floor of Market, Market, Taguig City. Another store you could check out is Komodo Teak Furniture (FMF Compound, Pioneer St., Mandaluyong). It carries some great pieces that are sleek and simple in design, making them suitable for modern spaces. And because they use teak wood, you'll know that you'll get a piece that is durable. This also means their pieces can be a bit expensive, but they do offer discounts once in a while, so try to time your visit to get a good deal.
