Bathtub Maintenance

A relaxing bathtub should be maintained regularly through proper cleaning. One of the common mistakes when cleaning bathtubs is using too much cleaning powder which can sometimes result in unwanted chips and cracks. Let these cleaning tips guide you.

Keep these tips in mind:

Daily Maintenance

After usage, simply wipe the tub and faucets with a cloth towel to remove residue and keep mineral deposits from forming. You don’t have to use a cleanser every day! Most cleansers contain harsh chemicals like ammonia and chlorine bleach, which can cause cracks. Instead of using an abrasive cleaner, why not create your own? If you mix water and vinegar together, you can create an effective cleaning solution. Read more about homemade solutions here.

RL Tip: Make sure you remove loose hair from the drain strainer daily to avoid clogging.

Weekly Maintenance

How many family members use the bathroom? If you have at least 4-6 people using the tub on a daily basis, then you must clean it weekly with warm half cup water mixed with half cup baking soda. Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate is known to be one of the best natural cleaning ingredients because it removes odor and dirt quickly.

When cleaning, don’t scrub harshly because it will damage your tub’s surface. Instead, wipe its surfaces gently with a damp cloth and your homemade mixture. Be sure to clean your drain strainer using an old toothbrush as well.

Monthly Maintenance

Tiles are known to get dirty quickly because of its enclosures and its ability to absorb shampoo and soap residues, which can then lead to mildew growth. Mildew is a common fungal growth that devours surfaces and often has a murky odor. To remove mildew, use a soft bristled brush and a ph-neutral cleaner or bleach, and gently scrub the tiles.

Aside from your tiles, keep your pipes well-kept by pouring half cup baking soda mixed with half cup vinegar down the drain. This will help prevent greasy residues from your shampoo to get stuck to your pipes. After pouring the solution, rinse it off with a hot cup of water.
