5 Smart Small Space Tricks From A 30sqm Condo

It doesn't involve purging your beloved collection!

Declutter, get rid of old things, let go—these are some of the tips we hear whenever we talk about small space living. Sure, not everything can fit in a compact space, but you don’t have to let go of everything either. You can even paint your walls in whatever color you like, even if it’s dark. Curious about these tips? Check out how writer Mabi David maximized every inch of her 30sqm space.

1. Get multi-tiered shelves where your collection can fit.

Would you believe that Mabi has 886 books, and all of them are in her unit? Her efficient organizing system enables her to do that. Tucked in one corner of her home are two six-tiered shelves that house her collection. Every inch of these shelves is occupied with books—no space is wasted.

2. Offset a dark hue with colorful furniture.

Despite the small space, Mabi didn’t paint her walls white or any light color. Instead, she went for medium gray. And the effect? A space that’s ultra-stylish! Colorful furniture pieces liven up her space and keep it from looking gloomy.

3. Use hooks.

Never underestimate the power of wall hooks—even a narrow wall can be turned into storage using these. Mabi’s eco bags and bayong also serve as décor while hung on the hooks.

4. Maximize your balcony.

If your condo unit happens to have a balcony, extend your living space. Put comfortable seating, like a bench, where you and your guests can stay. Spruce up the space with other pieces like a small side table and a few accessories.

5. No space is too small for a cozy nook.

Whether it’s a reading nook or a simple corner where you can spend some quiet time, you’re welcome to put one even in a small space. All you need is a chair that fits—whether it’s an armchair or a pouf, you can pair it with a small table and a lamp, or anchor the area with a mat or rug if you have a beanbag or pouf instead of a chair.
