1. Line it up.

Avoid filling your garage with clutter by designating one side of the space for all your stuff. Whenever that side gets filled up, keep in mind that it’s time to sort and purge. Doing so will keep you from storing junk.

2. Install hanging racks.

If you own bikes aside from cars, make use of the vertical space by installing a hanging bike rack. Your garage may not have enough floor space for you to park your bike just anywhere.

3. Make use of old carts.

Bring things in and out of the garage much easier by carting them all at one time. Make use of the old carts that your kids may no longer be using or simply tie a rope to a container with wheels.

4. Keep the tools organized.

Allot a space for tools. You may outline the tools on a pegboard or a regular plyboard with a marker or paint. Support the tools with a couple of screws or nails to prop them up securely on the wall but make sure the tools can be retrieved easily.

5. Store by the door.

You’ll never know what you will step on when you go out but you can prevent these from entering your home by keeping work shoes in the garage. You may hang a shoe rack or place shelves right by the door for easy access.

6. Use hampers.

Not all storage containers in the garage need to be covered. Place items that you often use such as sports equipment and umbrellas in large open containers so they can be taken out and returned back in easily. Hampers make a good alternative to regular containers as they are usually big enough for storage and are easy to fit in any space.
