Can't seem to find enough space for all your belongings? Do you always find yourself wondering how you can control clutter at home? Don't worry, you are not alone! We all have to deal with organizing and keeping the space clean. It all boils down to finding a routine that can works for us.

During the recently concluded Real Living and Century Properties Inspired Living Seminar, interior designer Hannah Acab-Faustino discussed storage solutions and organizing tips that can be applied in big and small spaces:

Consider keeping an organizer

“An organizer will be the master list that contains all your to-do lists and schedules,” shares Hannah. With the help of an organizer, you can keep track of your things, cleaning schedule, and the length of time that you need to dedicate per area. It gives you a sense of control over your cleaning and decluttering schedule.

Aside from having an actual organizer, you can also download helpful apps on your smartphone. “I personally like to use Basecamp. The nice thing about it is that you can have several people added and lahat kayo naka sync yung activities ninyo. It’s good for work and for synchronizing your kids’ schedules,” the designer shares.

RL Tip: It’s advisable to have only one organizer so that you won't be confused as to where you jot down your notes and other important reminders.

Designate a command center

A command center is a place where each family member would have access to his or her things. It's the special corner at home where you can leave notes, reminders, and important bills. “Hindi naman kayo kailangan magpagawa ng sobrang mahal na command center,” says Hannah.

“You can use the side of the refrigerator or a small area in your house as long as it can be easily seen,” she explains. Consider adding a memo board or a DIY chalkboard where you can leave messages and other items that need immediate action.

Clean and fix your things weekly

Let's admit it, we're all guilty of leaving things everywhere when we get home! Keys by the foyer, shoes and clothes in the bedroom—these habits can create a mess and leave the home in disarray. To avoid clutter, it's best to create a space where you can leave all of your things the moment you step inside the door.

Hannah suggests placing a multi-tier shelf with organizers—can be baskets, plastic containers, or boxes—by the door. This is where you can leave some of your things so that you can easily get it before you leave. Just make sure you edit and organize this part of the house weekly.

To make things easier, you can also assign one basket or box to each family member. Personalize it by adding cute labels.
