Bathroom Improvement Tips You Can Do In 1 Hour or Less

It’s a given—no one wants to use a dirty bathroom. Many of us look forward to a few minutes of peace in a serene space before stepping out to face another day or a refreshing bath after a long day. However, how can we enjoy our routine if the tiles are dirty and a funky smell seems to dominate the space? No need to worry, we’ve got expert tips from interior designers Kristine Neri-Magturo and John Vigilia to help you:

Keep the tiles sparkling clean with solutions you can find in the kitchen.

"A strong steamer can really deep-clean tiles. Also, combine vinegar, baking soda, and elbow grease in a spray bottle for a low-cost, effective option," suggests Kristine. Keeping the bathroom dry is also a must. "It is best to dry out the area and leave room for ventilation. Dark spots are caused by mildew growth that thrives on damp surfaces. The longer the water stays, the more quickly the mildew reproduces," says John.

Clean mirrors and glass partitions regularly.

"If it's a built-in mirror, there's a correct way of installing it to ensure that moisture from the wall does not seep in. It is best to leave installation to professionals," says John. Kristine adds, "Regular cleaning with white vinegar and water solution will make a difference. Use a microfiber cloth to clean and newspaper to polish."

Pick a rejuvenating scent.

"Spa-like scents like eucalyptus and peppermint often work well in bathrooms because they evoke purity and cleansing. Also, citrus scents awaken and rejuvenate the senses," says Kristine, who also owns home and lifestyle store Urban Abode that now carries a line of home scents. "Urban Abode offers an eco-friendly aromatherapy line of room and linen sprays and fragrance oils for ionizers, diffusers, and burners."
