Here's how you can keep your bathroom looking new and smelling fresh.

7 Simple Ways to Keep Your Bathroom Neat and Clean

Keeping the house clean can be a lot of work especially if you're constantly busy. You might go days (and even weeks!) without giving every room a scrub-down. The bathroom, in particular, can be a challenging spot to tackle, but it should be a top priority. Follow these simple tips to keep the smallest room in the house looking clean and smelling fresh.

1. Clean the tiles regularly.

Most homeowners choose ceramic tiles because of their style and durability. But without proper maintenance, ceramic flooring may start to look dull and moldy. Sweep or vacuum the floor regularly to keep its shine.

If you use water to clean the tiles, change it often as dirty water can leave cloudy marks. And since moisture is the breeding ground of mold, keep the toilet area dry by using quick-absorbent contour mats like those from Aquadry.

2. Make sure towels and mats are clean, too.

Even towels and mats that you use daily need proper care. Maintaining the quality of your towels and mats means you don't have to replace them so often, saving you money in the long run. 3. Declutter regularly.

Your bathroom is normally the smallest room so keep it clutter-free. Throw away empty shampoo bottles, old toothbrushes, and even old newspapers. Getting rid of clutter can free up space, brighten the area, and make the bathroom a more relaxing space.

4. Get organized.

Remember the adage: A place for everything and everything in its place. Put all of your bath essentials in a caddy, store electrical appliances like curling irons and blow dryers away from water, and stash cleaning products and sharp objects like scissors and nail clippers in separate containers in a bathroom cabinet or under the sink. Keep towels out of sight; use quick-dry towels from Aquadry that you can fold and store away after use.

5. Avoid overpowering scents.

Having a good-smelling bathroom is always a plus especially if you have frequent visitors. Subtly scented candles and aromatherapy oils like lavender, eucalyptus, and bamboo can get rid of unpleasant bathroom odors. Looking for something more natural? Lemons are a cheap alternative and can even be used to clean tiles.

6. Use baking soda as a multi-purpose cleaner.

Baking soda is just as hardworking in the bathroom as it is in the kitchen! Unclog bathroom pipes by pouring hot water down the drain and following it up with a mixture of half a cup of baking soda and half a cup of vinegar. Try this DIY cleaner to get rid of stubborn dirt and grime in the bathtub and shower area, and on tiles. (Note: Before you start scrubbing, dust the area to get rid of cobwebs and hair strands.)

7. Consider ventilation.

The bathroom is the most humid spot in the house, encouraging mold and mildew to grow. Opening the bathroom window regularly will allow you to air it out and get rid of unwanted odors and mold-inducing moisture. If you don't have a window, consider installing an exhaust fan to circulate air every time someone uses the bathroom.

Taking the effort to clean the bathroom regularly will not only keep it neat and odor-free but will also help keep you healthy. By not allowing dirt and grime to build up, you keep different types of illnesses from bathroom germs at bay. Pay attention to the small elements mentioned above to keep a well-maintained and functional bathroom.
