How-To: Maintaining An Organized Closet

After a much-needed purging, you can keep the chaos under control with these helpful tricks

A clean and tidy wardrobe is an essential part of the home—it saves you time when picking out clothes to wear in the morning, it's a source of fashion inspiration for some and it's a way to showcase designer pieces you worked hard for. Don't waste the time and effort you've put into organizing your closet by letting it turn into clutter. We've listed down a couple of must-dos that can help you keep it looking A+! 

  • Let linen breathe. Beddings, comforters, and linen should never be stored in plastic bags that can trap moisture and mildew. Try arranging them per set in separate pillowcases to know which is which in an instant. 
  • Keep it folded and hung. Pick a spot in your closet and keep your most frequently worn clothes there. Store the least used at the bottom shelf and if you don't use them in the next three months, donate them to someone else. 
  • Love your leather. If you have enough closet space, designate one compartment for your shoes and bags. It's best to store them in perforated boxes so it won't lose its shape. 
  • Wipe them clean. Brush off dirt and remove stains from your shoes before storing them. Use a soft-bristled brush for suede and leather; while a soap and water solution works for canvas or rubber. 
  • Go all-natural. Mothballs have toxins that may leave an unpleasant smell in the long run. Use cedar instead—these naturally repel moths and give off a fresh scent.
