DIY: 3D Geometric Wall Art

Living in a small space? Spruce up your wall with this easy and affordable project!

Last year, my partner Dom Medalla and I moved into this studio-type unit in Taguig. Even though it’s very small (less than 50sqm!), we still decided to beautify the place. Since we are currently part of the fast-paced BPO industry, we wanted a peaceful and relaxing home to go home to at the end of a long, tiring day –or night— at work.

To find more inspiration, I started reading Real Living in October 2014. I also bought the Real Living My First Home Book and it is now my go-to guide for styling our space.

While we are still saving money to buy a sofa bed, a center table, an area rug and a floor lamp, we are working on DIY projects. One of these projects is this 3D Geometric Wall Art.

  • Different colors of cartolina (I chose white, blue, brown and orange, but you can use your desired color combination)
  • Pencil
  • Permanent marker
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • Double-sided tape

Using a pencil and a ruler, draw two triangles beside each other. Add another triangle on top to form one big triangle. Keep in mind that all sides have to be equal. In this case, all triangles measured five inches on each side.

Draw excess parts along the bottom left part and the two upper parts of the triangles. You can apply the glue on these parts.

Use a permanent marker to trace the pencil drawings. Cut the pattern and use it to make more triangles on the cartolina.

With the help of a ruler, fold the excess parts and the triangles to form a 3D pyramid-like triangle. Fold inwards to hide the side marked with the pencil and permanent marker.

Apply a generous amount of glue on the excess parts outside of the triangles. Press it on the other side of the 3D pyramid-like triangle. Press firmly but carefully for a few seconds.

Once you have assembled your triangles, stick double-sided tape on the bottoms of your triangles.

The last step is to have fun and be creative in placing the pieces on your wall!
