7 Things We Loved from the Philippines International Furniture Show
Missed the expo last week? Let these highlights fill you in.
Last week, the SMX Convention Center was transformed into a lively venue as artists, architects, designers, students, and brand representatives came together for a one-of-a-kind event. From must-have furniture pieces and materials to enriching talks and fun booths—participants surely had a great time roaming around, snapping photos, and catching up with partners.
With the Philippines International Festival (PIFS) headlining the event, captivating setups took over the SMX, with each brand showcasing finely crafted masterpieces and elegant accessories. Aside from PIFS, the Interior & Design Manila (IDM) and the University of the Philippines Interior Design Alumni Association (UPIDAA) also held simultaneous events. To give you an idea on what else took place during the three-day event, here are some of the things we loved:
In photo: Aftermath
iDisenyo’s IDesign Stories: Amazing Visions and Directions brought together students from different design schools. The designs of the chosen entries were exhibited at PIFS with Group 12’s The Higala—a bentwood lounge chair, bagging the grand prize. Aftermath by the group mentored by Morfosis won 2nd runner-up. It featured a furniture collection made using upcycled materials.
While taking a break from checking out the pieces, many participants and attendees also dropped by the Boysen booth to showcase their creativity. Everyone got to paint, design, and take home blocks in different shapes as souvenir. The booth itself stood out in the venue—bright colors complete the structure, with clear cylinders filled with the blocks serving as décor, too.
We wouldn’t be surprised if the woven pieces piqued the interest of many visitors—after all, each piece showcases remarkable craftsmanship.
The Paris-based design specialist Nelson Sepulveda works with Philippine manufacturers to create a collection of woven pieces.
The different chapters of the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID) from all over the country also designed booths! Each chapter transformed a limited floor area into delightful nooks in various styles that gave attendees a few ideas on how to spruce up the key areas at home.
5. The Continuing Professional Development Conference and Workshops for design professionals hosted by IDM
Speakers from India, Malaysia, Melbourne, Shanghai, Singapore and Taiwan shared insights covering different fields and the latest trends. Well-attended by design professionals, it proved to be an enriching experience with the participants walking away with inputs that can be useful on the daily.
The special exhibit highlighted the artistry and unparalleled craft of our Kapampangan designers. Spectators got to see tables, chairs, wall art, and other furnishings made of bamboo—a quality material that can add a distinct Filipino meets tropical appeal to any space.
Whether it’s a chair, a bed, or even outdoor furniture, exhibitors and attendees got to see the best of the best. From the world-renowned pieces by Vito Selma to the high quality products of Pampanga-based Philiana Design—the event truly was a feast for the senses.
With the success of this year’s event, we can only look forward to a bigger and better staging of PIFS next year. Watch the video below to see more highlights:
