5 Ways To Achieve An Organized Kitchen
Keep your cooking corner looking pristine with these tips
Just like how we maintain any part of the house, organizing the kitchen entails careful planning, a little bit of elbow grease and a whole lot of smart hacks. It is also important to keep it in pristine condition as it is the busiest room at home. If you want the tidiest scullery of all time, make sure to try these tricks:
1. Control clutter.
“Kung wala ka ng space, don’t buy stuff anymore. Every so often, you have to purge,” says architect Arlene Maslog. Interior designer Nadine de la Cruz agrees and adds, “Start with sorting out the contents of your kitchen cabinets and drawers, and throw away materials you do not need or use.”
2. Assign a spot for each item in your kitchen.
“Everything should be clean and kept where it’s supposed to be before you retire for the day,” says Arlene. Store items in areas where they are often used. For example, you can store silverware near the sink for simple storage after cleaning or you can place plates close to the table for easy access when setting it.
3. Keep appliances away from plain sight.
“Free-standing appliances may sometimes be eyesores,” says Nadine. “Store them in tall cabinets, hutch cabinets or even tambour (roll-up) cabinets. Some tambour cabinets already have outlets incorporated for easy use of your appliances.
4. Invest in good quality storage systems.
Cabinets and drawers play a big role in keeping the kitchen organized, and so do cabinet partitions, rails and other storage solutions. “Drawer rails and dividers let you store pots, pans and even dishes neatly. Some dividers come in a peg or dowel system which you may employ for flexibility,” says Nadine. A swing-out cabinet with internal rollouts or corner cabinets with swing-out shelves are great storage options for pots and pans.
5. Store food items in cabinets with rollouts or in shelves.
“Pullouts, drawers, or cabinets with rollouts are ideal to easily access everything that is stored,” says Nadine. If you don’t have these, Nadine suggests placing food items in shelves. “Adopt a FIFO (first-in, first out) system to also avoid food spoilage."
