So, you've decided it's time for an upgrade—you're tired of your bedroom's dated look, your living room is looking a little lackluster, and your kitchen needs sprucing up. If you don't have the time for a major overhaul, no need to worry, a mini makeover can go a long way! Before embarking on an improvement project, here are some factors to consider:

1. Extent of renovation.

How much do you want to change? Are you looking at one room, two rooms or more? Will you be changing the floor, the walls, or both? Dreaming is the start of any good renovation, but you have to make sure that the changes you'll make are rooted in reality. Consider working by room instead of doing it all at once.

2. Style.

Do you want a totally new look or do you want to retain your home’s existing style with new finishes? Will the new finishes complement or clash with the existing furniture pieces? Are you going for modern or traditional? Remember to be specific with what you want and talk to your contractor or designer about it first.

3. Budget.

Budget is key in everything—we can't stress this enough. How much are you willing to spend? Are you willing to go over your allotted amount? Are you prepared to sacrifice quality for quantity? Try talking to a fellow homeowner who has gone through a similar renovation, do a lot of scouting and cost-comparisons to make sure you're getting value for your money.

4. Quality.

Are the materials you want of good quality? Cheap alternatives are fine as they can save you money. However, it's still best to invest in higher quality products—after all, your home is your biggest and most important investment.

5. Convenience.

Are you ready for disruptions in your schedule and living conditions? Even the simplest refinishing job like repainting can be trouble. It’s just a matter of how much inconvenience you’re prepared to put up with. Try plotting a schedule with your contractor to avoid any hassle.
