5 Clever Ideas for Tiny Balconies
Get ready to relax in a special spot with a cup of tea and a good book
Whoever says the outdoor area isn't an important part of the home probably hasn't experienced having a place to sit, feel the cool breeze and enjoy the city skyline. Even if your balcony is on the small side, that doesn't mean you can't turn it into a space that makes a big impact. Heed these design tips to create your own relaxation spot:
1. Save floor space with hanging chairs.
If there is no room for any type of seating, hanging chairs or hammocks are great options for outdoor spaces as long as you make sure that they are sturdy and assembled properly. They can give your lanai an unexpected Bohemian vibe, too.
2. Get creative with seating.
If you're set on having chairs, do your best to keep them comfortable and cozy even if they aren't traditional pieces. In this photo, you will see that wooden crates were used as a bench to fit perfectly on the side of the balcony and outdoor-friendly pillows were thrown into the mix for a casual vibe.
3. Invest in custom-made furniture.
It can be tough to find furniture for constricted spaces. To make sure that everything fits just right, consider going for custom-made or even multipurpose (seating that comes with storage, foldable tables, etc.) pieces to help you achieve a comfortable outdoor area.
4. Create the illusion of a garden with faux-grass.
Artificial grass and plant boxes with fresh blooms can instantly transform your balcony into a small urban garden. This works especially well for high-rise homes which don't have any visible signs of nature.
5. Less is more.
Contrary to popular belief, the balcony doesn’t always have to be shared space. If there is only room for one, don’t underestimate the power of a single folding chair and a few potted wonders.
