A Sleek Contemporary Design For A Three-Bedroom Condo Home
A family of six finds the perfect escape in the city in this 156sqm high-rise haven
More than anything, a successful home project is a collaboration between the owners and the design professional—the owners have a list of what they want to have in a space, while the designer comes ready with a bevy of solutions and ideas to make it work.
For this 156sqm condo, interior designer Iris Ocampo was tasked to achieve a hotel-like haven that would serve not just as a weekend retreat for a family of six based in Batangas, but also as a second home for the children who study in Manila. To turn the family’s wishes into reality, Iris carefully chose the materials and pieces used in the unit. After the total transformation, one can see the balance of textures and patterns, as well as the playful combination of colors and décor that make it extra homey. All these well-thought-out elements come together—not just to define the different areas, but to avoid a monotonous look as well.

Upon entrance, guests are greeted by the elegant living and dining areas. Both areas showcase neutral pieces, hints of gold, and sleek accessories that create a timeless appeal.
To make this unit stand out, Iris worked with a theme that covers mid-century modern down to the latest design trends. This corner by the entrance speaks elegance as seen in the console table with leather detail, the pair of chic lamps, and various accessories.
Who would have thought that the once-blank space can be transformed into an inviting and posh living area? To add pizzazz to the space, Iris used a 3D MDF (medium-density fiberboard) wall panel as accent then anchored the entire living area using a shag rug. The thick drapes also help make the area extra cozy and perfect for relaxing weekends.
Most of the pieces in the unit showcase clean lines and Iris made sure that these are carefully arranged to allow the owners to move comfortably around the place. In the living area, though the seating pieces take up space, there's enough allowance to allow one to get up and pass with ease. Minimal decor pieces also spruce up the wall near the TV to highlight the top-of-the-line entertainment system.
The dining area was quite a challenge to furnish given the architectural detail of the unit. To keep it from being dark and gloomy, Irish chose dining chairs with cream-colored upholstery, a work of art with bright colors to serve as wall accent, and mirrored panels to create an illusion of bigger space.
A refreshing centerpiece can also brighten up the dining area and make it extra inviting.
The master bedroom was completed with sophisticated furnishings, neutral colors, and sleek furniture to achieve the hotel-like feel.
To allow the man and lady of the house to enjoy a relaxing slumber, the bed is dressed up with velvety sheets, fluffy pillows, and a tufted headboard to accentuate the bed. An extra seating piece sits prettily in one corner to serve as reading nook.
Minimal decor can be seen in the master bathroom to keep it functional. Wall lamps paired with plenty of natural light keep it well-lit. To keep it neat and organized, the counter has enough storage underneath for towels and toiletries.
Aside from the inviting beds, guests would definitely notice the denim-like wallpaper used on the walls. Since it's a shared bedroom, Iris made sure that it would appeal to the occupants. A color scheme of blue, black, and white helped enhance the look of the space as well as complement the chosen furniture. At night, they also have the option to turn off the main lights and keep the lighting behind the headboard turned on.
The boy and girl occupants would definitely love the work/study desk in the room as well as the window seat that can serve as reading corner. To personalize the space, Iris added decor and accessories that reflect a love for basketball. There are also additional pieces to help the kids take note of to-do lists and other deadlines.
The girls' bedroom is dreamy with a modern take on the Shabby chic style as theme. Aside from the shag rug that anchors the pair of double beds, a full-height padded wall in pastel blue defines the sleeping area. Since the sheets are in crisp white, the pillows are in charming pastels and dainty colors to keep it from being dull.
A similar window seat can be seen—but this time around, it's completed with light-colored pillows and curtains. At the foot of the bed, a vanity area completed with storage nooks and a huge mirror can be seen.
To complement the pastel blue padded wall as well as to add to the Shabby chic feel of the space, floral wallpaper was chosen for this side of the room. It's the perfect backdrop for the envy-worthy vanity mirror that the girls would surely appreciate.
