Happy New Year from Marimekko

Happy New Year! Instead of setting off firecrackers (uso pa ba yan?) or giving sparklers to your kid (dangerous!!!), make your little one a star wand he can wave around when 2011 rolls in. If you want to make it extra-cute, try using artsy-patterned or graphic papers or fabrics, like in this how-to video from Marimekko… (click on link below)

Last-minute Xmas shopping, etc.

Only one more shopping day to go! Spent a total of six collective hours this week doing my last minute Christmas shopping (sigh), mostly stocking stuffers. But what if you’re looking for the big ticket items, i.e. stuff for the home you’d want to blow your 14th-month pay on? Well here’s a cheat sheet. I’ll start with Crossings Department Store at Shangri-la Plaza, which color-coordinated its displays this year, and is looking mighty festive in red. I love these leather home items and organizers that’d make such elegant gifts this year…

…oh and this red lucite table, very 70s!…

…and I was considering buying this cool red sofa, such a steal at only 9k thereabouts.

And I had time to drop by Bayo at Eastwood City Mall. Would you believe happy furniture store Heima partnered with them to create “Bayo-inspired” furnishings? No surprise here, since they almost share the same colors and vibe.

The prices are apparently quite competitive, with tags ending in the low five digits, and you get their popular candy-colored escritoires, cute patchwork ottomans and chairs. One caveat tho is that the furniture is only available at Rockwell, Eastwood Mall, Shangri-la, and Trinoma malls.

Cubao X redux

I’ve always been wary about Cubao X after its last renaissance (Oh, I believe they now call it “Cubao Expo”), so I haven’t visited it in a while. Well a recent collective has given us a reason to give it another look, even just for the weekend. Behold We Are Triangle Pop-up shop (whatever that means), a temporary furniture/lifestyle shop/art gallery that’ll emerge and disappear within this weekend. Up for sale are various new and pre-loved furnishings, like this repro Pierre Paulin chair…

…Eames Eiffel…

…and this sweet print Bernie Sim print. :)

We Are Triangle will run this Friday and Saturday (December 10 & 11) at Cubao X, Quezon City, from 6-ish to midnight. If you’re not buying anything, you can stay for the DJ sets. Might as well.
